Ford Sterling Surge Tanks

Surge tanks are an essential part of your cooling system for your heavy-duty trucks. Unfortunately, most factory installed surge tanks are weak and useless. The cheap plastic they use for their surge tanks is not reliable at all, and under high temperatures have a habit of busting and leaking. Also, when they start leaking sometimes it looks like the radiator is leaking when that is not the case at all.

The surge tank is to provide more space for the radiator fluid to go during operation. This prevents the blowing out of radiator fluid. Generally, the surge tank is located near the top of the radiator and like we said earlier, are made of plastic. They are located near the top because the high temperature of the fluid will force it to move upward. When you remove a surge tank, make sure that the engine is cool and drain the radiator for safety.
